Wizards First Rule is firmly in the Fantasy genre. The narrative focuses on Richard Cypher a trail guide from a place with no magic. He must travel to other lands to help Kahlan Amnell save her own lands from invading forces led by a ruthless dictator, who also happens to be a wizard of great power.

Wizards First Rule is the first of a series of books focusing on Richard and Kahlan. Each book contains one of the wizard’s rules. The rules in and of themselves are interesting to think about. The rest of the story gets political but it does not interrupt the story in anyway.

The themes in the overarching storyline get pretty dark but I would still highly recommend reading this book and possibly the rest of the stories as well.

Overall I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Although it is not for everyone i think the prevailing message and especially the wizard’s rules are things that everyone should be aware of even if you don’t agree with the opinions in the books.
